T-70B is a modernized version of the T-70, developed since July 1942, its production began in October of the same year, at the GAZ plant in Gorky and plant No. 38 in Kirov. Modification B differed from the early T-70 tanks by a new reinforced chassis, a modified exhaust system outlet, and a new driver's hatch. At the very end of 1942, a new, welded gun mantlet was introduced, and in the spring of 1943, exhaust pipe guards and a stamped driver's hatch appeared. The T-70B was armed with a 45-mm 20-K cannon and a 7.62-mm DT machine gun, and the hull was armored with sheets 15-45 mm thick. Maneuverability was provided by two twin automobile engines with a total power of 70 hp, so the noise the tank made when driving was no louder than a regular truck. The T-70B tank became the second largest Soviet tank during the war. These vehicles entered service with most tank and mechanized units of the Red Army, went through the entire war and served until Victory.
