The T-IV, one of the most famous tanks of the Second World War, was the backbone of the German armored forces. Option Pz IV Ausf. G, the production of which began in May 1942 and continued until April 1943, had no fundamental differences from the F modification. Numerous changes were made to the basic design during production. First of all, this concerns the installation of a 75-mm KwK 40 L/48 cannon with a two-chamber muzzle brake. The upgraded version of the KwK 40 tank gun had an initial projectile speed of 750 m/s. The new model of the tank of the quartet was equipped with additional protective 5-mm screens to protect the turret and sides of the hull, which received the playful nickname “apron” among the troops. A total of 1,687 vehicles of this modification were produced. Despite the enhanced armament, the tank still could not compete with the Russian T-34.
