24K Magic (stylized as XXIVK Magic) is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars. It was released by Atlantic Records on November 18, 2016. Mars reunited with Philip Lawrence and Christopher Brody Brown, who wrote an album under their joint alias Shampoo Press & Curl. Mars brought in new composers including Stereotypes and James Fauntleroy. Recording sessions for 24K Magic took place from late 2015 to September 2016 at Glenwood Place Studios in Burbank, California. Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), known professionally as Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, musician, dancer and music video director. He is known for his spectacular retro stage performances and his use of a wide variety of musical styles from pop, R&B and funk to soul, reggae, disco and rock. Mars is accompanied by his band the Hooligans, who play a variety of instruments such as electric guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, drums, and horns, as well as acting as backing vocalists and dancers. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mars moved to Los Angeles. Angeles in 2003 to pursue a musical career. In 2009, he co-founded The Smeezingtons, a production team responsible for various successful singles for Mars himself and other artists. He rose to fame in 2010 with the success of Bob's "Nothin' on You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire", both of which featured him on vocals. The same year, Mars released his debut studio album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which mixed pop with reggae-pop and R&B. The release spawned international number one singles "Just the Way You Are", "Grenade" and "The Lazy Song". Drawing inspiration from the genres of disco, funk, rock, reggae and soul, the musician's second studio album, "Unorthodox Jukebox" (2012) became his first number one on the Billboard 200. Two songs from this release hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100: "Locked Out of Heaven\"" and "When I Was Your Man". In 2014, Mars appeared on Mark Ronson's \"Uptown Funk\" which topped various music charts, spending a total of fourteen and seven weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart respectively.Mars' third studio album, R&B-oriented 24K Magic (2016), won seven Grammy Awards, winning the main categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.The album also included singles \"24K Magic\", \"That's What I Like\" (his seventh number one single on the Billboard Hot 100) and \"Finesse\" remix featuring Cardi B. In 2021, Mars and Anderson Paak as Silk Sonic , released a collaborative studio album, An Evening with Silk Sonic, which delved into 70s rhythm and blues and soul and was led by the chart-topping single "Leave the Door Open".
