Vasyl Hryhorovych Hryhorovych-Barskyi (1701-1747), a graduate of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, is a Ukrainian writer and traveler, brother of the outstanding Ukrainian architect Ivan Hryhorovych-Barskyi. In 1724, he went on a journey that lasted 24 years. He visited the countries of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. He lived in Egypt, at the court of the Patriarch of Alexandria. In 1729-1731 he lived in Tripoli (Syria). In 1734, he took monastic vows and spent six years on the island of Patmos. In 1743, he received a position at the Russian embassy in Constantinople. He returned to Kyiv in 1747, where he died soon after.
